Cure The Winter Blahs

We're currently editing some brand-new POV video of some of our biggest rides, including camera angles never before tried on the coasters of Cedar Point. The camera is from VholdR - they produce small cameras for extreme sports. The camera that we used is the ContourHD, which shoots in 720p HD. Because the camera is so small and easy to mount, we'll be recording POV on other rides in the spring and summer. You know, POV on Scrambler, Power Tower and even Space Spiral! Here's Raptor: Oh, and if you didn't catch this on our Facebook page, here's one of those "new" angles on Top Thrill Dragster: More on the way - ride all winter!

Demon Drop Update

We snapped a photo a few days ago of the current progress of the removal of Demon Drop. Workers are removing the track rails and will continue up the tower this week. We don't know for sure when the actual tower will start coming down, but it should be soon. We'll be there with camera in hand. Speaking of cameras, if you're not a Cedar Point Fan on Facebook, you should be. We're uploading some never-before-seen point-of-view videos (we mounted a camera in a different place) on some of our biggest rides. Oh, and they're in HD (720p). We shot some POV video just before we closed for the season, and we're sure you'll be happy with the results. The rest will be posted on our site in the Video Gallery and on YouTube.

A Rapid Update

We've posted some new construction photos over in the Shoot the Rapids gallery. You'll see updates from Nov. 6 & 12. Workers are pouring concrete - LOTS of concrete to form the splash down pools at the bottom of each drop. Also, we've received word that the boats have arrived. We'll head out to find them and bring you some photos and/or a video showing them off.

A Flume Here, A Flume There

The first steel pieces have arrived for Shoot the Rapids. We received some support pieces last week, and just got a fresh shipment of flume this morning. These pieces appear to be the bottoms of the two drops. If you look closely, you'll see steel "teeth" that are protruding from the actual flume. Those steel pieces will create a cascading rapids effect as the water flows down the flume. No sign of the boats yet, but we've taken some fresh photos of the construction site and hope to have them up soon!

Did you have a chance to check out our mobile site (m.cedarpoint.com) on your phone? If you used it this summer, we'd like some feedback from you so we can make improvements. We want to know three things: 1. How did you use it? 2. Was the experience useful? 3. What improvements would you like to see? (Please do not mention ride wait times, as we read you loud and clear, but cannot implement it at this time) Let us know - you could shape our mobile site for the future!

Goodbye Demon Drop

On Sunday, we said goodbye to Demon Drop as the last riders took their plunge on the free-fall thrill ride. Our Golden Ticket winners all had a blast. And the ride crew took their last ride as well... We'll keep you posted on the removal of the ride as well as other construction projects in the park, including Shoot the Rapids. Another season is now complete and we're already gearing up for Opening Day 2010 (we will have our operating calendar finalized sometime soon, btw). So, on behalf of all the staff (and Snoopy, too) here at Cedar Point, we say, "THANK YOU!" for making this season a great one!

Also, we're editing our Demon Drop farewell PointCast and should have that up soon!

It's our last weekend, kids. Not cool. Make sure you get those final rides in before we burp the lid on the 2009 season. Did that make any sense? Anyway, here's a little somethin' fun for your Halloween: That's John's pumpkin. He carved it in honor of Demon Drop's departure from our ride lineup. John's a 17-year-old fanatic from Chesterfield, MI who carves a Cedar Point pumpkin every year. Not too shabby, if we do say so ourselves! Thanks for sharing, John, and Happy Halloween to all our fans (we're open till midnight tonight, so come celebrate).
